This special issue of the International Journal of Applied and Computational Mathematics contains selected papers based on the talks presented at the 10th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2011, Puebla, Mexico. The conference received 348 papers in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing submitted by 803 authors from 40 countries: of these, 96 papers were accepted for presentation after a peer review processcarried out by the international program committee. The acceptance rate was 27.6%.
